Summer Swimwear I’m Loving

They told me it would happen but I didn’t really believe it. They told me someday I’d look back at the visual of my life and realize I was WAY too critical of myself. I would wish I was as thin now as I was back then. They told me I would realize someday that my hips were fine, my hair was healthy, my youth was wasted on the young version of myself who, at times, couldn’t get out of her own way. I would spend entirely too much time breaking down my imperfections rather than complimenting the things I liked about myself. No other experience brings this more to light that bathing suite shopping. I know you know what I mean. Is there anything worse than trying on swim suites in a cold dressing room under florescent lights? And I swear, they do something weird with the mirrors because everything just looks different when you get it home.

I’ve spent a lot of time recently really breaking down which universal truths go into flattering swimwear. Obviously, we women come in all kinds of glorious shapes and sizes but it seems that we all have the same general areas we can be extra critical of, especially the older we get. Being of a certain age myself, I decided to pull some examples of swimwear that addresses the general areas: Bust, Hips, Tummy and Butt.

I Love that you’re not just relegated to the one piece option unless that’s just where you’re the most comfortable. These all offer tummy control and they’re modest without looking frumpy. One of the most important things to consider when choosing something with a pattern is to make sure to keep the pattern on the TOP half, which creates a sense of balance that is more flattering than it being on the bottom, especially if that’s your challenge area. Most importantly though, don’t stop yourself from participating in that pool party or beach day because you don’t think you look good enough. YOU are GORGEOUS and finding something that makes you remember that is half the battle. Don’t miss out on fun and memories to be made because there are options out there to help make you feel more comfortable in your own skin. Sometimes, you just need a little direction and encouragement. The most beautiful thing a woman can wear is a smile and confidence. And remember, someday you’re going to look back at the you that you are today and wish you hadn’t been so hard on yourself.

So lighten up and compliment yourself. You’ve got this!
